6:00 am to 7:45 am
Preregistered runners may also pickup their race materials on race day morning at the Ocean Gateway Terminal. Please note that the start and finish are in two different locations; and, packet pickup is being held at the finish area. It’s a short 3/4 mile walk (uphill) from the Maine State Pier to the start area on Cutter Street. Two shuttles buses will also be available to transport people from the pier to the start.
Start Corral
A start corral process will be used in 2013 to facilitate a more efficient and convenient race day experience for all participants. This process is necessary because a large field of runners is anticipated and due to the presence of bottlenecks on the course. During the registration process runners will be asked to submit their expected pace for a half marathon race. On race day runners will seed themselves inside the corral based on their expected pace. Runners will not be held to the expected pace from registration; they may choose to seed themselves anywhere in the corral. In general the fastest runners will be seeded first in the corral and the slowest runners/walkers will be seeded toward the back.
Course Description
Both races start high up on the Eastern Promenade of Munjoy Hill overlooking the Casco Bay. Runners will have beautiful views of the water along 90% of the course including the Back Cove the Presumpscot River estuary. Half marathon runners will also travel into the Maine Audubon’s Gilsland Farm for about ½ mile on a dirt path and turnaround. The races finish in the Old Port next to Portland’s new Ocean Gateway Terminal. The courses are flat and fast with a net negative elevation gain. The last 6 miles of the half marathon take place on the Back Cove and Eastern Promenade Trails with no vehicular traffic. Participants in the 5km event will descend a new set of granite steps through the woods. See the course maps for more details.
Water Stops
There will be a water stop approximately every mile on the course serving water and Cytomax electrolyte drink. Volunteers from Habitat For Humanity of Greater Portland will serve runners at each water stop. A portion of the proceeds from this event will be donated to Habitat For Humanity and support green building initiatives.
Medical Support
Medical support along the course and at the finish line will be provided by Mercy Hosptial Emergency Department.

Short Sleeve Performance Race Shirts 100% Recycled Polyester, 100% Made in USA
To align with our conservation ethic and reduce waste, our race entry fee does not include a race shirt. We take our shirts very seriously and only want to offer something that runners will appreciate. We are pleased to offer short sleeve, men’s and women’s, moisture-wicking performance fabric shirts made from 100% recycled polyester. The shirts perform like typical moisture-wicking polyester shirts, but use 70% less energy to produce. Each shirt is produced by using 8-12 raw post-consumer plastic bottles. The shirts are made by a Brunswick, Maine-based company, Atayne that is committed to making products that are safe for both human health and the environment. These shirts are produced from fiber to finish in the US and are reviewed by a third party to guarantee environmental and human health standards. Runners must buy their shirt by June 9th, 2013, in order to be guaranteed the desired size on race day. Orders may be placed after this date, however sizes cannot be guaranteed – we will do our best to forecast the number of shirts needed after 6/9. Shirts must be claimed by a runner or their designee at one of the pre-race packet pickups or before 8:00 a.m. on Sunday, July 14, 2013. Shirts not claimed after this time will be forfeited. Shirts will not be shipped after the race. Each shirt costs $12.
